Role Description The Cashier role at West Virginia University is a full-time, on-site position located in Morgantown, WV. The cashier is responsible for accurately processing cash, credit, and other transactions, issuing receipts, and balancing cash drawers at the end of shifts. Daily tasks include providing courteous customer service, answering questions about charges or payments, and following established procedures for returns, voids, and reconciliations. The role involves maintaining a clean and organized work area, safeguarding cash and confidential information, and adhering to university policies and compliance standards. The cashier collaborates with team members and supervisors to resolve discrepancies, support peak service times, and ensure an efficient and positive experience for all customers.

Qualifications

• Strong cash-handling skills, including accurate counting, making change, and reconciling cash drawers.
• Customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly, respond to inquiries, and handle concerns professionally.
• Basic math and numerical reasoning skills to process transactions and verify totals.
• Attention to detail and reliability in following procedures, documenting information, and maintaining records.
• Comfort using point-of-sale systems, computers, and related technology; ability to learn new systems as needed.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, manage a steady workflow, and work scheduled shifts, including peak hours.
• High school diploma or equivalent; prior cashier or retail experience is preferred but not required.
